MAHSOPA AGM 2020 TO BE HELD ON 18.4.2020 HAS BEEN POSTPONED

Dear friends,

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Registrar of Societies has banned all activities and gatherings including AGMs by societies until 30th June 2020.

As such the MAHSOPA AGM scheduled for 18th April 2020 is now postponed until further notice.

INVESTMENT IN PROPERTY BY MAHSOPA?

In 7 years' time,2026, MAHSOPA celebrates her 50 years of founding. After 43 years, MAHSOPA still has not invested in a property which we can let out for rental and a space for our own MAHSOPA office. A two storey shophouse can be a good investment. Let out the ground floor for monthly income and use the first floor as our office and meeting space. Currently, we have no monthly and recurring income for activities or investment. Maybe, a subcommittee be formed to study and recommend a working plan to look into this possibility. Though MAHSOPA has over the years sponsored MHS pupils in their pursuit of higher studies and building of the MHS hall, it is about time we look inward for our own future investment and activities. Hopefully, we undertake a long term plan of 7 years to see our dream come true by 2026. Meliora HIC Sequamur.

MALACCA HIGH SCHOOL OLDER THAN 193 YEARS OLD?

During a recent press conference to announce Malacca High 193rd. Anniversary Dinner by MAHSOPA, we highlighted that Malacca High School may be older than thought.

Before the Dutch handed over Malacca to the British during the Napoliatic wars in  Europe in the 1800s, the Dutch had their schools- one of which may have been inherited by the British to become Malacca High School.

If this is true, Malacca High School can be older than Penang Free School which was founded in 1816.

MAHSOPA hopes to do a research on this matter with the help of the Dutch Embassy on this matter.

MAHSOPA FLYER WITH MEMBERSHIP FORM

One of our committee member suggested recently that we can try to have MHS pupils leaving school to sign up with MAHSOPA.

This is an excellent proposal. What is lacking is we currently do not have a flyer with membership form.

MAHSOPA LIFE MEMBERSHIP CARDS?

As a MAHSOPA Life member, I will like to suggest to the MAHSOPA Committee that life members who want their MAHSOPA cards be rewarded with them.

Firstly, these cards show we are part of the MAHSOPA community. All of us can also keep these MAHSOPA Life member card as our souvenir.

Secondly, to enhance the value of this membership card, the management can tie up with alumni members who own bistros, cafes, restaurants etc. and give our members a 10% discount on their purchases of minimum RM 50.00 upon showing our MAHSOPA card.

By doing so, we can benefit. Merchants can benefit by getting businesses.
